Giving Changes Lives

We know that giving changes lives – ours and the people we’re reaching. The bible shows us that the believers in Acts gave so generously that none had need. The old testament teaches us the principle of giving: the tithe. Today we know that God loves a cheerful heart. Are you being called to invest financially in the evangelization of South America? Do you have the gift of giving? We know that giving is an act of worship an expression of gratitude, faith and love for others. Having the ability to give generously is a great gift from God. In others there is a burning desire to serve in foreign missions but without the financial means they may not afford to go or to stay in the field.

Your financial contribution paired up with those with the burning desire to live in the mission field or who are already there making of missions make for a perfect collaborative effort.

May God bless you and your faith for your consideration in helping the efforts of the Northwestern part of South America…Grupo Andino.

One Year

South America is an excellent place to come to and serve at! There is so much history, beauty and spiritual need. It takes faith to take on the challenge of becoming a self – supporting missionary and we are grateful that you are considering taking this leap in our direction.  It is our desire to have you join us in a mutually encouraging and productive year (or more) together while here you will given many opportunities to serve even if you do not command the Spanish language at first.  You will gain: global experience, immersion in the local language (Spanish), cultural enrichment and we hope you’d also gain a deep love for the people in the country you serve in. If this is something that you are looking into doing please let us know.

2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV) And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.

Vacation

If you are interested in serving in South America but have limited time available consider the possibility of taking your vacation time to come. Taking your vacation time to strengthen, encourage, get to know and share with others in South America is another way to serve.

Debi Markland, a disciple from Orlando, decided that she would take her vacation time to visit a small church in the Caribbean. She contacted the church leader there and shared what God had put on her heart. The church leader asked if she’d be willing to speak to a small group of about 50 women. Once Debi agreed, the group started to invite friends, family, co-workers and others open to listening. Within just a few days the small group was able to get over 80 women together to hear the word of God. It was about four years since they had a women’s day. The sisters turned it into a Women’s Night by pitching in and bring food (like a potluck). The next day, Sunday, many of the same women who attended the event were at the service for the first time.

Being a position to take a short term missionary journey to one of our Grupo Andino churches has the potential to make substantial contributions toward the missionary efforts of those who live there full time.  Debbie took what God had put in her heart and figured she had to do something with it. In sharing Debbie’s story we hope that her story will inspire many to dream about what God could do with a willing heart on a short trip. The Power of Prayer

Many times we hear about the need for financial support for missionaries.  The truth is, without prayer, the money is useless. Yes, useless.  The real issue is not money. The real need is prayer.  Through the ages missionaries have seen first hand how it’s only God that can save the lost, heal the sick or accomplish anything out in the mission field. And He chooses to work through prayer.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. — Colossians 4:2–3 (NIV)

Therefore committing to pray for missionaries is an integral way to serve. How then should we pray for missionaries?  Is it enough to say “God take care of Carlos and Alejandra”? Keeping missionaries in our daily prayers could be difficult specially if we are not in close contact.  We hope that the news section of this website helps to break through the language barrier and in turn gets us all more connected. We urge you to pick a country to pray for and who you will keep up to date on and in contact with. However most missionaries, regardless of their location or ministry, have some needs in common, simply because they are missionaries along with being human and in need of God’s grace.

With that in mind below are some prayer ideas:

    • Faithfulness in Ministry: Wisdom and skill in training others and boldness in sharing the gospel, Growth in grace, Joyful service to the church and faithful in prayer
    • Building Relationships: Effective grasp of the language & culture to communicate effectively, Cultural adjustment to fit in appropriately, Freedom to be transparent and real with own heart, Deepening love for the people of the region, Teachable heart, Deep Relationships, Grace, Humility, Encouragement, Mercy, Deepening love for the poor, the orphans & widows
    • Protection: From sin and Satan’s attacks, For their children, Against pride, From the worries of this world or anything that hinders prayer, To have a vibrant and consistent prayer life, To constantly abide in the Word of God, To have humility, flexibility and openness to learning
    • Resources: Financial support, Good stewardship of resources, More workers for the field, Power of the Spirit in their ministries, Faithful and effective prayers, Greater connection to the US churches, Greater numbers of people willing to come support (move ins)
    • Home & Family: Strong marriages and families, Strong faith and love of God for the children, Friendships on the field, Missionary kids to have good transitions, good friends, love for the team and people, Family issues regarding transitions like going to college, aging parents that are in other countries, Health, safety and health (resting, fun, exercise and eating balance), Safe, adequate and affordable housing, Spiritual nourishment in a cross-cultural context where there may be no church or a small, perhaps immature, church; spiritual nurturing for their children and youth when there may be no ministry for young people
    • Worldwide Church Family: Godly national church leaders, Men and women willing and able to facilitate plantings, Healthy family relationships, Children that believe (specially 2nd generation) and come to faith, Protection for young believers in the faith, so that they may grow strong, protected from social pressures and false teaching, Courage in persecution, Vision for missions to go where others can’t, True biblical understanding, uncompromised by cultural pressures or regional traditions, True hunger for the Word
    • People in Countries that have unrest: Wisdom for national christian’s, Personal safety, Fellowship or connection with believers (the body), Opportunity to share the gospel safely, Church plantings, Open doors & hearts, Availability of Bibles, books and ministry instruction
    • Hearts: To be godly, gifted, For everyone to have hearts for missions, Financial support, Vision, strategies and methods, Significant participation in partnerships (between mission field and supporting churches), Hearts that are growing in grace and generosity, Servants.

Colossians 1:9 NIV For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives
